The Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, has commenced an open bidding process for the construction of two strategic roads under the Conference 57 Road Project in Lagos State.

Epe Insights reports that the projects cover Omolola Road, which links the Epe–Ijebu-Ode Expressway to Iraye-Oke Road, and Opeoluwa Odufisan/Oguntimehin Street in Poka. Construction activities are expected to begin with Omolola Road.

The bidding exercise attracted eight construction companies seeking to undertake the road projects. The participating firms are Ogbodo Civil Engineering Ltd, Construction Seven Nigeria Ltd, O & S Nigeria Ltd, DP Engineering Nigeria Ltd, Destone Construction Ltd, Toy Clean Project Ltd, Comprehensive Construction Ltd and KnickPoint Ltd.

The exercise was presided over by the Vice Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Lateef Adesanya, who reaffirmed the council’s commitment to transparency, accountability and due process in the award of public infrastructure contracts.

The open bidding process provides an opportunity for interested contractors to participate in the procurement exercise, with the council emphasising the importance of a transparent procedure in delivering projects that serve the public interest.

According to the Council Engineer, Engr. Abraham Afolabi, Omolola Road measures approximately 748 metres in length, while Opeoluwa Odufisan Street/Oguntimehin Street in Poka spans approximately 746 metres.

He explained that both roads are designed with an average width of 10 metres to improve accessibility and provide better movement for motorists, pedestrians and other road users.

The projects will also include reinforced concrete drainage channels measuring 0.75 metres by 0.75 metres. The drainage infrastructure is expected to improve water flow and help address drainage challenges along the roads.

In addition, solar-powered streetlights will be installed as part of the planned infrastructure improvements. The lighting component is expected to enhance visibility and support safer movement for residents and commuters, particularly at night.

The proposed road construction forms part of the council’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and provide essential amenities across communities within Eredo LCDA.

For residents along Omolola Road and the connecting communities, the planned construction could improve access to surrounding areas and ease movement between the Epe–Ijebu-Ode Expressway and Iraye-Oke Road.

Improved road access may also benefit traders, artisans, transport operators and other business owners who depend on reliable road networks to move goods, reach customers and conduct daily activities.

Similarly, the planned improvements along Opeoluwa Odufisan/Oguntimehin Street in Poka are expected to support mobility and provide residents with better access to neighbouring communities and essential services.

The inclusion of concrete drainage is another important feature of the projects. Effective drainage infrastructure can help channel stormwater away from road surfaces, reduce water accumulation and support the durability of newly constructed roads.

The proposed solar-powered streetlights will complement the roadworks by improving illumination without relying entirely on conventional electricity supply. Their installation is intended to contribute to a more accessible and safer environment for residents.

The Conference 57 Road Project provides a framework for road infrastructure development involving local councils in Lagos State. Through the initiative, participating councils can pursue projects aimed at improving road networks and addressing infrastructure needs within their respective communities.

For Eredo LCDA, the selection of the two roads reflects an effort to address local transportation needs while supporting the continued development of its communities.

The Akinloye-led administration has reiterated its commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and the delivery of meaningful dividends of democracy to residents.

With the bidding process now underway, attention will turn to the procurement process and the subsequent implementation of the projects. The council’s emphasis on transparency and due process is expected to guide the exercise as it works towards delivering the planned road improvements.

When completed, the roads are expected to strengthen connectivity, improve drainage and support economic activities in the benefiting communities.

The projects also highlight the importance of infrastructure investment at the grassroots level, where improved roads can make a practical difference to residents’ daily lives, local commerce and community development.

Through the planned interventions, Eredo LCDA aims to advance its infrastructure agenda and improve the quality of life of residents across the council area.
