The Lagos State Government has commenced the construction of the 670-metre Adebayo-Akinade Road in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area as part of efforts to promote balanced development and reduce rural-urban migration.
Epe Insights reports that the road project was flagged off on behalf of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu by the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, at Adebayo-Akinade Street, Igbogbo-Baiyeku.
Agbaje said the project forms part of several infrastructure initiatives being implemented through the Office of Rural Development.
He said the projects are designed to extend the benefits of government programmes to communities outside the major urban centres.
According to him, the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to implementing the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Development Agenda at the grassroots.
Agbaje commended Sanwo-Olu for prioritising rural communities in the state’s development plans.
He said the government was determined to ensure that rural areas benefit from infrastructure and other development programmes.
The Special Adviser noted that improved road infrastructure would help create economic opportunities and enhance living conditions for residents.
He disclosed that the governor had also approved the immediate commencement of six additional road projects in Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Ifelodun councils.
Agbaje said the projects form part of the administration’s broader rural development programme across Lagos.
He urged residents and community stakeholders to support the contractor and provide a conducive environment for the project.
The contractor was also directed to complete the road within the stipulated timeframe and maintain the required quality standards.
In his goodwill message, the lawmaker representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Dr. Aro Moshood, commended the governor for what he described as an inclusive approach to development.
Moshood said the administration’s investment in rural infrastructure was helping to transform communities and improve access to economic opportunities.
He noted that more than seven critical road projects had been approved in Ikorodu during Sanwo-Olu’s seven-year administration.
According to him, the projects have contributed to economic activities and helped make rural communities more attractive to residents and investors.
Moshood appealed to the contractor to complete the Adebayo-Akinade Road within the agreed timeline.
He also called for the engagement of skilled and unskilled residents in the community during the construction process.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, thanked the governor for his continued focus on rural infrastructure.
Bolarinwa said the provision of roads and other social amenities has helped improve economic activities and living conditions in rural communities.
She urged residents to take ownership of the project and protect the infrastructure after completion.
The Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Prince Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, also praised the state government for its investment in Ikorodu and other rural areas.
Aroyewun said the various projects being implemented across the area were contributing to its ongoing transformation.
He noted that improved infrastructure could make Ikorodu increasingly attractive to residents, businesses and investors.
The council chairman appealed to residents and community leaders to avoid activities that could disrupt construction work.
He urged all stakeholders to cooperate with the contractor until the road is completed.
The Chairman of Odera Community Development Association, Professor Noah Imodu, expressed appreciation to the state government on behalf of residents.
Imodu described the project as an important development for the community, particularly in improving accessibility and supporting economic activities.
He said residents viewed the project as a valuable investment in the future of the community.
The CDA chairman assured the government that residents would work with the contractor and relevant authorities throughout the construction period.
He also pledged community support towards ensuring that the project is delivered within the stipulated timeframe.
The Adebayo-Akinade Road project comes amid a wider rollout of rural road infrastructure across Lagos.
Within the past week, the Office of Rural Development also flagged off several road projects in Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Ifelodun.
The projects include the 560-metre Isikalu Road, 270-metre Odofin Road, 320-metre Alayabiagba Road and 250-metre Cemetery Road in Ajeromi-Ifelodun.
Also included are the 320-metre Asubiojo Road and 320-metre Owoseni Road in Ifelodun Local Council Development Area.
The state government said the projects demonstrate its continued commitment to spreading infrastructure development across different parts of Lagos.
For residents of Igbogbo-Baiyeku, the Adebayo-Akinade Road is expected to improve connectivity and support movement within the community.
Better road infrastructure can also make it easier for residents and businesses to access surrounding areas.
The project is therefore being positioned as part of the state’s broader effort to strengthen rural communities through infrastructure.
