The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has joined Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, in the presentation of Land Allocation Letters to 98 villages in Ito-Omu and surrounding communities, marking a major milestone in land security and planned development within the rapidly growing Ibeju-Lekki axis.
Epe Insights reports that the ceremony brought together top government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to celebrate what has been described as a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening land ownership and promoting sustainable development across the beneficiary communities.
The presentation of the allocation letters is expected to provide legal recognition for the affected villages while creating a stronger framework for physical planning, investment and economic growth.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Naheem Adams, who represented the Speaker, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Housing, Hon. Osho Kazeem.
Also in attendance were the Executive Chairman of Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area, Hon. Biliaminu Samson Agunbiade, the Lagos State Head of Service, members of the State Executive Council and His Excellency, Alhaji Bode Oyedele.
Traditional institutions were equally represented, including the Oba of Lagos through Opemoluwa Onido, the Onibeju of Ibeju Land, the Alara of Ilara and several other royal fathers.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the allocation exercise as another important step in the transformation of Ibeju-Lekki into one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing economic corridors.
The governor assured residents that development would permanently change the fortunes of the area, saying the benefits of modern infrastructure and strategic investments would continue to improve livelihoods for generations.
He urged residents to embrace the ongoing transformation, noting that future generations would appreciate the remarkable progress taking place across the communities today.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also shared his long-term vision of positioning the area among globally recognised development destinations, comparing its future potential to internationally renowned cities such as Miami and Las Vegas.
According to him, the pace of infrastructure development and investment across the Ibeju-Lekki corridor demonstrates the state’s commitment to creating a world-class urban and economic hub.
For Hon. Olowa, the event represented not only a significant government initiative but also a deeply personal moment.
The council chairman described the allocation as a historic achievement that would strengthen land security, encourage proper planning and enable indigenous communities to benefit directly from the rapid transformation taking place within Ibeju-Lekki.
He emphasised that land remains an important part of the identity, heritage and economic future of every community.
According to him, proper documentation and formal recognition of land ownership will encourage investment, reduce disputes and create opportunities for sustainable community development.
Hon. Olowa disclosed that his family’s ancestral farmland, which he has known for more than 49 years, is among the lands officially recognised through the allocation process.
He revealed that the property has now been formally documented as Olowa Ushenbadejo Village in Ibeju-Lekki.
Expressing his appreciation, the chairman thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Government for what he described as a memorable and life-changing gesture.
He said the recognition of his family’s land carries enormous personal value and would remain a source of lasting gratitude for him and future generations of his family.
Beyond his personal experience, Hon. Olowa congratulated all 98 beneficiary villages, describing the allocation as a victory for the entire Ibeju-Lekki community.
He commended Governor Sanwo-Olu and relevant government agencies for their commitment to strengthening land administration and ensuring orderly development across Ito-Omu and neighbouring communities.
The chairman expressed confidence that the initiative would improve land security, attract responsible investment and support better physical planning throughout the area.
He further noted that the formal allocation would provide communities with greater confidence to participate in development programmes while protecting their long-term interests.
Hon. Olowa stressed that as Ibeju-Lekki continues to attract major infrastructure projects and private investments, indigenous communities must remain central beneficiaries of the area’s economic transformation.
He maintained that inclusive development remains essential to ensuring that residents enjoy the opportunities created by industrial expansion, improved infrastructure and increased commercial activities.
The event reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to balanced development by combining infrastructure delivery with policies that protect community interests and strengthen land administration.
For the beneficiary villages, the presentation of the allocation letters represents more than official documentation.
