Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Epe has held its maiden Stakeholders’ Meeting, bringing together traditional rulers, religious leaders, political figures, youth representatives, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders to discuss the future of healthcare delivery in Epe Division.
Epe Insights reports that the historic gathering was organised by the management of FMC Epe to strengthen collaboration with the host community, address public concerns, correct misconceptions surrounding the hospital’s establishment, and improve confidence in the Federal Government-owned health institution.
The meeting, themed “Making FMC Epe Work for All: A Shared Responsibility for Building Trust, Improving Service and Enhancing Patient Care,” attracted prominent personalities from within and outside Epe.
Among those in attendance were the Oloja of Epe Land, His Royal Majesty Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Sabit Ikuforiji, the Grand Chief Imam of Epe Division, Fadeelat Sheikh AbdulRahman Abiola Sadallah, representatives of Hon. Wale Raji, youth leaders, community representatives, and other respected stakeholders.
Welcoming participants, the Medical Director of FMC Epe, Dr. Adesola Kaka, expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support the hospital has received since its establishment.
He explained that the stakeholders’ meeting was created as a platform for open dialogue, transparency, and stronger collaboration between the hospital and the communities it serves.
Dr. Kaka acknowledged that some residents still have concerns following the transition from the former General Hospital, Epe, to the Federal Medical Centre.
He noted, however, that FMC Epe has continued to expand healthcare services, attract new medical programmes, and improve facilities aimed at delivering quality healthcare to residents of Epe Division and neighbouring communities.
According to the Medical Director, the hospital is still in its developmental stage but has already recorded significant progress in strengthening medical services and improving patient care.
He assured stakeholders that the management remains committed to building a modern tertiary healthcare institution capable of meeting international standards while responding to the healthcare needs of the people.
Dr. Kaka emphasised that the transformation of FMC Epe cannot be achieved by management alone, stressing that cooperation from residents, community leaders, and stakeholders is essential.
He urged the people of Epe to regard the medical centre as their own institution and continue supporting efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the division.
The Medical Director also highlighted the benefits that have accompanied the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, including expanded medical services, improved specialist care, and greater opportunities for healthcare development.
He reassured participants that the management remains focused on improving service quality, enhancing patient satisfaction, and responding promptly to legitimate public concerns.
During the interactive session, stakeholders openly shared observations, concerns, and recommendations on issues relating to staffing, accessibility, infrastructure, communication, and patient care.
The Oloja of Epe Land, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, commended the management for initiating the stakeholders’ engagement and encouraged sustained collaboration between the hospital and the community.
The monarch described dialogue as an important tool for building trust and ensuring that healthcare services continue to improve in line with the expectations of residents.
Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Sabit Ikuforiji, also praised the initiative, describing the meeting as a significant step toward promoting public confidence in the institution.
He urged community members, government agencies, corporate organisations, and philanthropists to continue supporting FMC Epe as it develops into a leading tertiary healthcare facility.
The Grand Chief Imam of Epe Division, Fadeelat Sheikh AbdulRahman Abiola Sadallah, called for unity, understanding, and continuous engagement to strengthen the relationship between the hospital and the communities it serves.
Youth representatives, including members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Epe Local Government Chapter, also contributed to discussions by presenting constructive suggestions aimed at improving healthcare services.
Participants unanimously agreed that regular stakeholder engagements would help strengthen communication, address emerging challenges, and improve public understanding of the hospital’s operations.
They also encouraged residents to make good use of the services available at FMC Epe while supporting the institution’s ongoing growth and development.
The maiden stakeholders’ meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by the management, traditional rulers, religious leaders, government representatives, and community stakeholders to work together in building a stronger, more responsive, and patient-centred Federal Medical Centre for the benefit of Epe Division and surrounding communities.
The engagement marked an important milestone in FMC Epe’s journey toward becoming a trusted centre of excellence in healthcare delivery through partnership, accountability, and shared responsibility.
