The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, FHTI, has officially flagged off the 2026 Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) Week in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board.
Epe Insights reports that the week-long health campaign is designed to improve access to free, life-saving healthcare services for mothers, newborns, children, adolescents and families across Epe Local Government.
The flag-off ceremony attracted government officials, healthcare professionals, nursing mothers and community stakeholders committed to improving maternal and child health outcomes in the council area.
Among those present were the Supervisor for Health, Hon. Oshineye Rasheed Omotosho, the Council Manager, Mrs. Shofolu Olufunmilayo Alis, members of the Executive Council, management staff and healthcare workers.
Addressing participants, Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare and ensuring that quality medical services remain accessible to every resident.
She described the MNCAH Week as an important public health intervention that promotes healthy pregnancies, safe deliveries, child survival and improved family well-being.
The council chairman encouraged expectant mothers, nursing mothers, parents, caregivers, adolescents and all eligible residents to take advantage of the free healthcare services available throughout the exercise.
She stressed that early access to healthcare remains one of the most effective ways to reduce maternal and child mortality while promoting healthier communities.
Princess Surah congratulated the nursing mothers who recently gave birth, expressing joy over their safe deliveries and wishing them good health as they begin the journey of motherhood.
She urged the mothers to prioritise the health and nutrition of their babies by attending routine health appointments and following professional medical advice.
As part of the ceremony, the chairman presented essential maternal care items to nursing mothers to support them during the postnatal period.
The gesture was warmly received by beneficiaries, who appreciated the council’s continued investment in maternal and child healthcare.
The 2026 MNCAH Week offers a wide range of free healthcare services across designated primary healthcare centres within Epe Local Government.
Residents will benefit from antenatal care designed to monitor the health of pregnant women and ensure safer pregnancies.
Postnatal care services are also available to help mothers recover after childbirth while providing medical support for newborn babies.
Family planning services are being provided to enable individuals and couples make informed reproductive health decisions.
Children will receive Vitamin A supplementation to strengthen immunity, improve vision and support healthy growth.
The exercise also includes deworming services to protect children from parasitic infections that can affect nutrition and overall development.
Healthcare professionals are conducting growth monitoring to assess children’s physical development and identify any health concerns early.
Malnutrition screening is another key component of the programme, helping medical workers detect and manage nutrition-related challenges among children.
The initiative reflects the Lagos State Government’s continued collaboration with local councils to improve healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
Through this partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, more residents are expected to benefit from preventive and essential healthcare services.
Princess Surah noted that healthcare remains one of the major priorities of her administration, adding that investments in preventive care contribute to healthier families and stronger communities.
