The Wife of the Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Tuberculosis (TB) Ambassador for Ibeju-Lekki and Lekki LCDA in Health District III, Alhaja Ramat Bola Kasali, has reaffirmed her commitment to promoting tuberculosis awareness and preventive healthcare among schoolchildren across the council area.
Epe Insights reports that Alhaja Kasali joined the First Lady of Lagos State, Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, at Iwerekun Community Junior High School for the Tuberculosis (TB) Health Talk and Awareness Campaign in Schools. The programme was organised by the Office of the First Lady Tuberculosis (TB) Steering Committee (OFILI) in collaboration with Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.
The awareness campaign brought together students, teachers, healthcare professionals and government officials to educate participants on tuberculosis prevention, early diagnosis and the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles.
As TB Ambassador for Ibeju-Lekki and Lekki LCDA in Health District III, Alhaja Ramat Bola Kasali reaffirmed her dedication to supporting initiatives that improve public health through sustained education and community engagement.
She noted that creating awareness among students is an effective strategy for reducing misconceptions about tuberculosis while encouraging early detection and prompt treatment.
The interactive health session provided students and teachers with practical information about the causes, symptoms, prevention and treatment of tuberculosis. Participants were also encouraged to adopt healthy habits and share the knowledge gained with their families and communities.
Health educators explained that tuberculosis is both preventable and curable when diagnosed early and treated appropriately. They urged students to seek medical attention if they or anyone they know experiences symptoms associated with the disease.
The campaign also emphasized the need to eliminate stigma surrounding tuberculosis. Organisers stressed that fear and discrimination often discourage people from seeking timely medical care, making public awareness essential in the fight against the disease.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to eliminating tuberculosis through sustained awareness campaigns, improved school healthcare services and stronger community partnerships.
The First Lady highlighted the establishment of a sick bay at Iwerekun Community Junior High School as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to basic healthcare services for students and promote a healthier learning environment.
She emphasized that healthy children are better equipped to concentrate in class, participate actively in school activities and achieve improved academic outcomes.
According to her, investing in children’s health remains a vital component of the Lagos State Government’s broader agenda for quality education and sustainable development.
Students actively participated in the awareness session by asking questions and engaging with healthcare professionals, creating an atmosphere that encouraged learning and open discussion about tuberculosis and general health.
Teachers welcomed the initiative, describing it as a valuable opportunity to reinforce health education within the school community while empowering students with life-saving knowledge.
Education stakeholders noted that schools remain important platforms for promoting preventive healthcare because children often share valuable information with their families, helping to extend awareness beyond the classroom.

Parents and community leaders also commended the programme, describing it as a timely intervention that supports both children’s health and educational development.
Public health experts continue to emphasize that awareness campaigns remain one of the most effective ways to reduce the spread of tuberculosis through early diagnosis, prompt treatment and improved public understanding.
By targeting young learners, the initiative seeks to build a generation that is better informed about disease prevention and committed to promoting healthier communities.
The collaboration between the Office of the First Lady Tuberculosis Steering Committee, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and community stakeholders reflects the importance of partnerships in addressing public health challenges.

For Alhaja Ramat Bola Kasali, the campaign represents another step in her advocacy for improved healthcare awareness across Lekki LCDA and Ibeju-Lekki. As TB Ambassador, she continues to support programmes that educate residents and encourage healthy living through sustained public enlightenment.
The awareness programme also reinforced the message that protecting children’s health is essential for educational success, community development and the overall wellbeing of society.
As Lagos State continues to strengthen its response to tuberculosis, initiatives such as the TB Health Talk and Awareness Campaign in Schools demonstrate the government’s commitment to combining education with healthcare to achieve lasting impact.
With students, teachers and community members now better informed about tuberculosis prevention and treatment, organisers expressed confidence that the campaign will contribute to healthier schools and more resilient communities across Ibeju-Lekki and Lekki LCDA.
