Ibeju-Lekki Communities Set for Emergency Meeting Over Coastal Road Setback, Security

Epe Insights reports that the Ibeju-Lekki Ancestral Communities have announced an emergency stakeholders’ meeting to address key concerns surrounding the 150-meter coastal road setback, security, and motorcycle operations within the area.

The meeting is scheduled to hold on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the Eleko Town Hall and is expected to bring together community leaders, residents, and other stakeholders.

According to the organisers, the gathering will focus on reviewing ongoing engagements with government authorities regarding the coastal road setback affecting several communities.

Community representatives expressed concern that the setback poses significant challenges to residents and could threaten historical sites and cultural relics located along the coastal corridor.

They noted that while development remains important to the growth of Ibeju-Lekki, efforts must also consider the preservation of community heritage and ancestral landmarks.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to receive updates on discussions and advocacy efforts aimed at securing a waiver on the controversial setback.

Leaders of the ancestral communities emphasized the need for continuous dialogue to ensure that developmental projects align with the interests and wellbeing of affected residents.

Security issues are also expected to feature prominently during the engagement.

The communities plan to review the security situation across the area and discuss strategies for sustaining peace and public safety.

Stakeholders are expected to commend the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, for security initiatives they believe have contributed to stability within the local government.

Community leaders acknowledged ongoing efforts by the council to strengthen security and enhance the safety of residents.

However, concerns will also be raised over increasing motorcycle activities during late-night hours along routes linking Eleko and the coastal axis.

Residents have reportedly expressed fears that unrestricted night-time motorcycle operations could pose security challenges and increase risks within affected communities.

As part of deliberations, participants are expected to consider calls for stricter regulations and possible restrictions on late-night motorcycle movements.

The stakeholders’ meeting is also expected to serve as a platform for strengthening collaboration between residents, traditional leaders, and government authorities.

Community leaders stressed that collective action and constructive engagement remain essential to addressing challenges facing the area.

Epe Insights notes that the meeting comes at a time when Ibeju-Lekki continues to witness rapid development and increasing economic activities.
