Sanwo-Olu Orders Intensified Waste Cleanup Across Lagos

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered an immediate expansion of waste evacuation operations across the state following the recent accumulation of refuse in several communities.

Epe Insights reports that the Governor said the directive is aimed at restoring cleanliness and improving environmental conditions in affected areas.

According to Sanwo-Olu, relevant government agencies have already intensified efforts to clear waste backlogs across Lagos.

He disclosed that the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), and the Ministry of the Environment are working round the clock to address the situation.

To accelerate the cleanup exercise, the state government has deployed additional waste evacuation trucks and personnel to affected neighborhoods.

The Governor noted that residents should begin to notice improvements as the operation progresses across different parts of the state.

He assured Lagosians that the cleanup exercise would continue until all identified waste accumulation points are cleared.

Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the scale of the challenge, noting that Lagos generates more than 13,000 tonnes of waste daily.

He explained that managing such a large volume of waste requires continuous investment, coordination, and commitment from government agencies.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s determination to resolve the current sanitation challenges and sustain environmental cleanliness.

He emphasized that maintaining a clean city remains a priority for the Lagos State Government.

While highlighting government efforts, Sanwo-Olu also appealed to residents to support the initiative through responsible waste disposal practices.

He advised households and businesses to properly bag their waste before disposal to facilitate effective collection and evacuation.

The Governor further urged residents to avoid dumping refuse on roads, medians, drainage channels, and other unauthorized locations.

According to him, indiscriminate waste disposal contributes significantly to environmental degradation and flooding.

Sanwo-Olu stressed that government efforts alone cannot guarantee a cleaner Lagos without active cooperation from residents.

He called for collective responsibility in protecting the environment and maintaining public health standards.

Environmental stakeholders have welcomed the intensified evacuation exercise, describing it as a timely intervention.

Many believe the move will help address sanitation concerns and improve the overall appearance of communities across the state.
