The Lagos State Government, through Health District III, has reaffirmed its commitment to stronger environmental health systems aimed at promoting safer and healthier communities across its jurisdiction, with special attention to areas including Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, and Eti-Osa.
Epe Insights reports that the Permanent Secretary of Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, announced this during the distribution of disinfection, vector control, and water testing materials to Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) and selected public facilities.
The intervention is designed to strengthen environmental sanitation, improve infection control, and enhance water safety within health facilities across the district.
Dr. Adeleke explained that the materials will support efforts to prevent vector-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue through improved environmental hygiene practices.
She added that the water testing equipment will help ensure regular analysis of water sources at PHCs to prevent waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid.
According to her, environmental health remains a core component of public health delivery, requiring consistent investment and monitoring to protect communities.
She noted that the initiative reflects a dual-focused strategy aimed at improving both sanitation conditions and water quality across health facilities in the district.

Dr. Adeleke stated that the intervention comes at a critical time as government intensifies preparedness measures against potential public health threats, including Ebola Virus Disease.
She urged beneficiaries to ensure proper use, maintenance, and accountability of all distributed materials to achieve maximum impact.
The Director of Environmental Health Services, Sanitarian Mary Akinola, noted that gaps identified during quarterly monitoring informed the need for the intervention.
She explained that the distribution of the materials is part of efforts to address identified challenges and improve environmental health performance across PHCs.
Health officials emphasized that improved environmental practices within health facilities will contribute significantly to reducing disease outbreaks in communities.
Stakeholders in Epe and other benefiting areas are expected to implement stronger monitoring and preventive measures using the new resources.
The initiative further reinforces the government’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.
Residents in Epe have been encouraged to support environmental health efforts by maintaining clean surroundings and ensuring safe water usage.
The Health District III leadership reaffirmed its dedication to building resilient health systems capable of responding effectively to public health challenges.
