The leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), alongside tricycle and motorcycle operators in Ibeju-Lekki, has pledged support for new security and regulatory measures introduced by the local government.

Epe Insights reports that the Supervisor for Market and Revenue, Hon. Ahmed Ajibola Elemoro, met with NURTW executives and leaders of commercial transport associations to relay key directives from the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the local government and transport unions in addressing security concerns and improving accountability within the sector.

A major highlight of the engagement was the role assigned to NURTW and other transport bodies in ensuring proper identification and documentation of commercial operators across the local government.

Officials emphasized that transport unions remain critical partners in maintaining security due to their extensive presence in communities and transport hubs.

The local government directed all unit leaders to maintain updated records of operators under their supervision to aid security monitoring and intelligence gathering.

Participants were informed that every commercial motorcycle operator must be properly registered and identifiable through approved channels.

The administration also reaffirmed its restriction on motorcycle operations beyond 10:00 p.m., describing the measure as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard residents.

According to council officials, transport unions are expected to support enforcement by ensuring their members comply with operational guidelines.

The mandatory use of approved identification aprons was also discussed during the meeting.

Authorities noted that the initiative would help security agencies and residents easily identify legitimate operators while discouraging illegal activities.

In addition, operators were directed to possess valid National Identification Numbers (NIN) as part of efforts to improve record management and accountability.

The meeting further addressed the need for proper profiling of foreign nationals involved in commercial transportation activities within Ibeju-Lekki.

Government representatives advised such individuals to complete documentation processes through the appropriate immigration authorities.

Speaking during the session, Hon. Elemoro described transport unions as strategic stakeholders in the development and security architecture of the local government.

He stressed that the success of government policies largely depends on the cooperation of organized groups such as NURTW and commercial transport associations.

The Supervisor explained that improved compliance would not only strengthen security but also enhance revenue generation and service delivery.

He reiterated the commitment of the Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa-led administration to maintaining peace, order, and sustainable development across Ibeju-Lekki.

The administration, he said, remains focused on creating a secure environment that supports economic growth and attracts investment opportunities.

Leaders of the NURTW and other transport associations welcomed the engagement and commended the local government for involving stakeholders in decision-making.
