Onibeju Rallies Communities Against Security Threats, Warns Against Sheltering Criminals

The Paramount Ruler of Ibeju-Lekki Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba AbdulRasaq Waliu Olasunkanmi Oguntolu I, has convened an emergency security summit to address growing concerns over reports of suspected criminal activities in parts of the local government area.

Epe Insights reports that the meeting was held at the Ibeju-Agbe Palace following the circulation of viral videos showing suspected criminals apprehended by youths in several communities within Ibeju-Lekki.

The security summit attracted traditional rulers, Baales, Olorituns, security agencies, transport union leaders, hoteliers, community representatives, and other critical stakeholders.

Speaking during the meeting, the Onibeju described the recent incidents as a serious concern requiring immediate and collective action from residents and community leaders.

The monarch stressed the importance of community policing, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

According to Oba Oguntolu, the growing trend of residents intercepting suspected criminals should serve as a wake-up call for communities to strengthen local security structures.

He emphasized that safeguarding lives and property requires cooperation among traditional institutions, security agencies, and residents.

The royal father also warned landlords, property owners, and hotel operators against accommodating individuals whose identities and activities cannot be properly verified.

He noted that providing shelter to suspected criminals could pose serious threats to peace and security within the kingdom.

Community stakeholders used the forum to highlight security concerns affecting various areas across Ibeju-Lekki.

Among the issues raised were reports of suspicious activities around borrow pits along the Epe corridor and concerns over the operations of scrap metal dealers in some communities.
