Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has appointed Oba (Dr) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Alara of Ilara, as the 6th Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
Epe Insights reports that the appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Prof. Gbolahan Elias, SAN, who served as the 5th Chancellor of the institution.
The State Government and the university community commended Prof. Elias for his meritorious service and dignified representation of LASU throughout his tenure.
According to an official statement, the appointment was made pursuant to the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), which empowers the Visitor to appoint the Chancellor.
Oba Ogunsanwo’s appointment takes effect from Friday, February 13, 2026, for a single term of five years, renewable once.
University authorities, including the Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the new Chancellor and expressed confidence in his capacity to provide visionary leadership.
They noted that his wealth of experience and royal stature would further advance LASU’s vision and mission in academic excellence, research, and institutional development.
Stakeholders described the appointment as strategic, expressing optimism that it would strengthen governance and enhance the university’s standing among leading higher institutions in Nigeria.
