The Director of Springfield Private School/Bosede Idehen International Academy, Madam Maureen Idehen Ovabor, has emphasised the importance of full resumption from the first day of every academic session, saying no week on the school calendar should be treated as insignificant.
Epe Insights reports that Madam Idehen Ovabor made this known while explaining the school’s approach to academic resumption, attendance and learner engagement.
She said the institution does not subscribe to the practice where learners stay away from school during the first week because the period is considered a time for cleaning, repairs or other preparations.
According to her, a school should be fully prepared to receive learners before the commencement of a new academic session.
“The First Week Is Also Important”
The Director maintained that the first week of an academic session is part of the official school calendar and should be used effectively for teaching and learning.
She explained that cleaning, maintenance and other preparations should be completed during the holiday, while support staff should handle necessary facility-related activities.
“The school must be prepared for learners during the holiday. Classes must take place immediately. Support staff can take care of things in the school; students and teachers should not be doing that when they are expected to be learning and teaching,” she said.
Madam Idehen Ovabor noted that ensuring learners resume on the first day allows them to settle into the academic programme immediately and maximise the available learning period.
School Introduces Week-One Perfect Attendance
To encourage full attendance from the beginning of each session, Springfield Private School introduced its Perfect Attendance for Week One initiative.
Learners who attend school every day during the first week are recognised and rewarded by the institution.
The school also holds a Pizza Date on the final day of the opening week, creating an enjoyable experience for learners while encouraging parents to prioritize early resumption.
The initiative has been running for more than two academic terms as part of the school’s efforts to promote punctuality, attendance and commitment to learning.
School Showcases Learning Facilities
Speaking further, the Director highlighted some of the facilities available at Springfield Private School/Bosede Idehen International Academy.
They include Montessori facilities, a Special Educational Needs (SEN) room, well-equipped classrooms, Science Laboratories and ICT facilities.
She said the facilities were established to support learners’ educational needs and provide them with opportunities to learn in a modern environment.
Madam Idehen Ovabor also said the school is working to introduce more facilities and resources as part of its ongoing development plan.
The institution said its focus remains on providing learners with quality teaching, modern educational resources and a structured environment that supports academic and practical development.
