In a heartening display of responsive governance, the Lagos State Government on Monday disbursed financial assistance cheques to 250 vulnerable residents under the Sanwo-Olu Listen Financial Assistance Programme.
EpeInsights learnt that the event, held at the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement in Alausa, Ikeja, was a moment of hope and validation for residents battling economic hardship, health crises and struggling businesses.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, emphasized that the initiative is a practical expression of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s compassionate and inclusive leadership.
“This administration remains committed to listening to the people,” Dr. Afolabi said.
“We are here today because the Governor Sanwo-Olu heard your cries and responded. This is not just assistance; it is a promise kept.”
As Dr. Afolabi noted, “This is about building an inclusive Lagos—one where no one is left behind.”
He explained that the selection process was rigorous, aimed at ensuring that only genuine cases were supported ranging from individuals with urgent medical needs to small-scale traders and those struggling with rent.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Taofeek Okunlola, shared his journey, admitting he was skeptical at first. “My business was collapsing, and I applied not expecting much. But today, I am grateful and surprised to be here.”
Another recipient, Mrs. Comfort Balogun, said the assistance will go a long way in offsetting her child’s hospital bills. “It feels good to know the government truly sees and hears us,” she said.
This disbursement follows a recent announcement during the Y2025 Ministerial Press Briefing, where it was revealed that ₦1.6 billion has been earmarked for the 2025 Financial Assistance Programme.
The event is part of that broader commitment to improving the welfare of indigent Lagosians.
Also present at the ceremony were the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Sholabomi Shasore, and other senior officials from the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement.
