The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, has officially lifted the suspension on Eid-el-Adha celebrations in the Epe community, signaling a step toward restoring normalcy amidst tensions over the ongoing Olu-Epe succession dispute.
EpeInsights reports that the earlier suspension was issued as a precautionary measure to prevent communal unrest following the emergence of two rival claimants to the Olu-Epe title: High Chief Iskilu Olajide Ikuforiji and Chief Kadri Adeniyi Odedeogboro.
Both individuals had declared themselves Olu-Epe-elect, leading to heightened anxiety across the community.
In a letter made available to the public, Princess Animashaun directed both parties to cease presenting themselves as Olu-Epe-elect pending further resolutions. The local government chair also emphasized that her primary responsibility is to ensure peace, safety, and unity in Epe.
With the suspension now revoked, residents have been encouraged to freely observe Eid prayers and participate in the festive activities at the 1st Epe Central Mosque and the Eid Ground on Eid Street.
“Eid-el-Adha is a sacred time for prayer, unity, and reflection,” Princess Animashaun said. “I call on all residents to maintain peace and vigilance during the celebrations.”
The move has been widely welcomed by community members, many of whom had expressed disappointment over the initial cancellation of one of Islam’s most important holidays.
The chairman’s decision is expected to calm tensions while reinforcing the importance of community harmony during sensitive periods.
As Epe prepares for Eid, local authorities are advising residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity that could jeopardize the peace.
