Renewed Hope in Action: Ibeju-Lekki Residents Empowered with Solar Devices Under Presidential Initiative

As part of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, residents of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government were recently empowered through a grassroots initiative promoting sustainable energy and community development.

EpeInsights reports that the empowerment drive was launched by the Office of the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Community Engagement and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

They launched the “Light Up Ibeju-Lekki” project, an empowerment drive focused on distributing solar-powered devices to residents.

The items distributed included solar-powered freezers, fans, lamps and cooking stoves, aimed at reducing dependence on the unreliable public power supply and promoting the adoption of renewable energy technologies at the community level.

The presidential delegation was received at the Ibeju-Lekki Council Secretariat in Igando-Oloja by the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, alongside members of the council’s executive and legislative arms.

In his welcome address, the Chairman lauded the Federal Government’s commitment to grassroots development and commended President Tinubu’s administration for empowering local councils to initiate meaningful projects.

“The Renewed Hope agenda has enabled us to deliver real impact at the grassroots,” he said, pointing to ongoing capital projects and improved federal allocations as examples.

He also praised national infrastructure developments like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as evidence of good governance translating to local progress.

In her remarks, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Community Engagement, Mrs. Moremi Ojudu, applauded the Executive Chairman’s leadership and professional input as an engineer, particularly highlighting the newly constructed council secretariat building.

“It’s clear that Hon. Olowa is not just leading but building literally. His expertise is evident in the development of this secretariat and other local initiatives,” she noted.

Mrs. Ojudu reassured the community of the Federal Government’s continued commitment to local empowerment under the “Renewed Hope” mandate and promised that more community-centered initiatives would soon follow.

A key highlight of the event was a demonstration session led by technical trainers, where residents were taught how to assemble and effectively use the solar-powered devices distributed. This hands-on training was aimed at helping beneficiaries get the most value from their new tools.

Residents who received the items expressed gratitude to the Presidency and the local government, promising to put the solar equipment to good use.

The event was well-attended by a wide cross-section of the community, including: the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Council legislative and executive members, Traditional rulers (Baales and Council Chairman of Baales), Political stakeholders, party loyalists and APC faithful, Community Development Committee (CDC) leaders and Market leaders, youth groups, artisans and women leaders.

The “Light Up Ibeju-Lekki” project is just one of many upcoming initiatives under the Tinubu administration’s community engagement drive, signaling a new wave of development designed to empower local communities through innovation, inclusion, and sustainability.
