The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two individuals for impersonating officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and defrauding members of the public under the guise of providing emergency medical care.
EpeInsights gathered that the suspects, identified as Nuche Joseph, 34, and Lawal Rofiat, 29, were apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on April 29, 2025.
According to police reports, the pair had been operating under the name BrainGrace Ambulance Service while falsely presenting themselves as LASAMBUS personnel.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects had been exploiting accident victims by charging exorbitant fees for pre-hospital care services that are officially provided free of charge by the Lagos State Government.
The fraudulent scheme came to light after relatives of a deceased accident victim alleged on social media that they were forced to pay N150,000 for emergency assistance from BrainGrace Ambulance. Tragically, the victim passed away before reaching the hospital.
Outraged by the discovery that such services should have been free, the victim’s family initially blamed LASAMBUS in their online complaint.
However, the police swiftly launched an investigation which revealed that BrainGrace Ambulance was operating independently and without authorization from the state.
Both suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime and have been charged to court.
The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting the public from fraud and ensuring that state-sponsored emergency services are not misrepresented or exploited.
