LSACA Congratulates Lagos Residents on Easter, Urges Healthy Living and Safe Practices

The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) has extended warm Easter greetings to all residents of Lagos, while emphasizing the need for healthy living and safe practices during and beyond the festive season.

In a statement issued by the agency’s Public Affairs Unit, LSACA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, congratulated residents on the occasion of Easter and reminded them of the importance of preventing the spread of HIV through responsible choices.

“Easter is a season that symbolizes renewal, hope, and love — values that should guide how we care for our health and that of others,” she said.

Dr. Animashaun urged Lagosians to celebrate responsibly by practising safe sex, undergoing regular health screenings, and embracing moderation in lifestyle choices. According to her, adopting healthy habits contributes to physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

She further called on residents to show love and support to people living with or affected by HIV, not only during festive seasons but all year round. She described HIV as more than a medical condition, noting that it also requires social understanding and collective action.

“Stigma and discrimination remain major barriers in the fight against HIV. They discourage people from seeking care, getting tested, and disclosing their status — which in turn increases the risk of transmission and worsens mental health outcomes,” she said.

The LSACA CEO also reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and supporting HIV-related initiatives. She encouraged residents to take advantage of the free HIV testing and counselling services available at designated healthcare facilities across the state.

Dr. Animashaun concluded by urging the public to stay informed, get tested, and contribute to a healthier society by supporting government efforts and showing compassion to those affected by HIV.
