Lekki LCDA Holds Free Medical Outreach

Residents of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have benefited from a free medical outreach held at the Idasho Primary Health Centre, where hundreds received essential healthcare services aimed at improving community wellbeing.

Epe Insights reports that more than 300 residents accessed free medical consultations, laboratory tests, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, eye care, dental care, glaucoma screening, medications and health education during the outreach programme.

The initiative formed part of ongoing efforts by the Lekki LCDA administration to expand access to quality healthcare and encourage residents to take advantage of available primary healthcare services within their communities.

Addressing beneficiaries, the council chairman urged residents to seek prompt medical attention whenever health concerns arise. He stressed that early diagnosis and preventive healthcare remain the most effective ways to reduce the burden of disease and improve overall quality of life.

He also warned against self-medication and the use of unregulated traditional treatments, noting that such practices often worsen health conditions that could have been successfully managed through timely professional care.

The chairman commended the Supervisor for Health, the Medical Officer of Health and the entire health team for their commitment to delivering accessible healthcare services to residents across the council area.

He also praised the Head of Department for Environment for educating residents on the importance of environmental sanitation in preventing disease outbreaks. The awareness campaign comes ahead of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday.

Health experts at the outreach encouraged residents to embrace regular medical check-ups, monitor their blood pressure and blood sugar levels, and seek professional advice before taking any medication. They noted that many chronic illnesses can be effectively managed when detected early.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the free healthcare services, describing the outreach as timely and impactful. Many said the programme enabled them to access medical attention that might otherwise have been beyond their financial reach.

The outreach also provided an opportunity for residents to receive health education on disease prevention, healthy living and the importance of maintaining good personal and environmental hygiene. Such awareness campaigns are expected to promote healthier lifestyles within the community.

Primary Health Centres remain the first point of contact for many residents seeking affordable healthcare. The council reiterated its commitment to strengthening these facilities through improved services and community-based health interventions.

The free medical outreach reflects Lekki LCDA’s broader commitment to investing in initiatives that enhance public health, improve access to medical care and support sustainable community development. The administration believes that healthier residents contribute to stronger families, increased productivity and long-term socio-economic growth.

As the council continues to expand healthcare programmes, residents are encouraged to make regular use of Primary Health Centres and participate in public health campaigns designed to build a healthier and more resilient Lekki community.
