Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has intensified the enforcement of environmental sanitation regulations with the arrest of 78 traffic offenders during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the council area.

Epe Insights reports that the enforcement operation targeted motorists and commercial transport operators who violated the Lagos State Government’s movement restriction order observed between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on sanitation day.

According to the council, despite repeated public announcements and awareness campaigns, several road users ignored the restriction and were apprehended by the Eredo LCDA Environmental Enforcement Team during coordinated operations.

The enforcement exercise led to the arrest of 55 tricycles (Keke Marwa), 16 motorcycles (Okada) and seven vehicles, bringing the total number of offenders to 78.

The council said the operation was carried out across different parts of the LCDA as part of efforts to strengthen environmental discipline, improve public order and ensure compliance with sanitation regulations.

Officials noted that the monthly sanitation exercise remains an important initiative aimed at promoting cleaner communities, preventing environmental degradation and supporting public health.

Speaking on the exercise, Executive Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws without compromise.

He stated that compliance with sanitation regulations is essential to achieving a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment across the local council development area.

Hon. Akinloye urged residents, transport operators and motorists to cooperate with government directives by observing movement restrictions during monthly environmental sanitation exercises.

He stressed that environmental sanitation should not be viewed solely as a government programme but as a shared civic responsibility that requires the active participation of every resident.

The chairman also encouraged residents to maintain clean surroundings by clearing drainage channels, disposing of waste responsibly and adopting proper environmental hygiene practices beyond the monthly exercise.

According to the council, consistent enforcement of environmental regulations will help reduce indiscriminate waste disposal, minimise flooding caused by blocked drains and improve public health outcomes within the community.

The administration further reiterated its support for the Lagos State Government’s environmental sustainability agenda, noting that local councils have a vital role to play in ensuring compliance at the grassroots level.

Residents have been advised to familiarise themselves with sanitation guidelines and comply fully with future exercises to avoid arrests and other sanctions for violating environmental laws.

The latest enforcement exercise reflects Eredo LCDA’s determination to promote environmental responsibility, maintain public order and build cleaner, safer and healthier communities for all residents.
