In a bid to streamline urban mobility and curb the menace of indiscriminate parking, the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has announced plans to regulate Valet Parking Services across the state.
EpeInsights reports that the new initiative, spearheaded by LASPA, is designed to standardize valet operations whether on public roads, curbside spaces, or private properties ensuring they comply with safety, traffic, and environmental standards.
According to the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, the regulation mandates all Valet Parking Service providers to be officially registered with the authority.
Key registration requirements include submission of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) documents, insurance coverage for customer vehicles, a verified list of employees with valid driver’s licenses, and police background checks for all valet drivers.
“Valet operators must also submit detailed operational site plans, along with safety and traffic management strategies, as part of the approval process,” Mrs. Adelabu stated.
She emphasized that service providers will be required to follow standardized operating procedures. These include issuing receipts with full service details to customers, ensuring attendants wear clearly marked uniforms, and restricting parking activities to designated, legally approved locations.
Furthermore, all valet personnel must obtain permits from LASPA and be certified by the Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI). To ensure ongoing compliance, LASPA will carry out routine inspections of valet service operations.
“This regulation is a crucial step toward a more organized, efficient, and safe Lagos,” Adelabu noted.
“It will enhance customer confidence, protect public infrastructure, and promote responsible parking practices.”
The regulation marks another move by the Lagos State Government to improve traffic flow and urban planning in one of Africa’s most populous cities.
