The Lagos State Government has announced plans to commission the first phase of its flagship food logistics hub located in Epe before the end of 2026.

Epe Insights reports that the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen food security and modernise the agricultural value chain across Lagos State under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

Olusanya explained that the state is transitioning from isolated agricultural interventions to a coordinated food systems economy aimed at improving production, storage, logistics, and price stability.

She noted that over 25,300 farmers, fisherfolk, processors, livestock operators, traders, women, and youths were trained within the review period, alongside more than 100,000 previously trained beneficiaries.

According to her, the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme has trained over 1,500 youths in poultry, aquaculture, crop production, and agribusiness management, with additional support provided through mentorship and productive assets.

The commissioner also disclosed that 442 secondary schools participated in the Lagos Agric Scholars Programme, with 50 schools selected for practical vegetable farming support.

She added that 12 top-performing schools will receive greenhouse facilities and agricultural inputs to further encourage youth participation in agriculture across the state.

Olusanya further revealed that the Lagos State Butchers Academy has trained 20 youths and equipped them with containerised meat shops to improve hygiene and modernise the meat value chain.

She stated that an additional 40 youths will be trained, while 10 more containerised meat shops have been approved by Governor Sanwo-Olu to expand the initiative.

The proposed Epe food logistics hub is expected to enhance food distribution systems across Lagos State while reducing post-harvest losses experienced by farmers and traders.

It is also projected to improve storage capacity and ensure more efficient movement of food commodities from rural producers to urban markets.

Stakeholders say the project will play a key role in stabilising food prices and ensuring consistent access to affordable food supplies across the state.

Agricultural experts have described the hub as a strategic infrastructure project capable of transforming Lagos into a more resilient food system economy.

The Lagos State Government continues to emphasize agricultural innovation, youth participation, and private sector collaboration as key pillars of its food security agenda.

Epe Insights gathered that the food logistics hub will serve as a central point for aggregation, processing, storage, and distribution of food products within and beyond Lagos.

Officials say the Epe location was selected due to its strategic position within the state’s agricultural production corridor.
