The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fiscal transparency and equitable revenue allocation during the Stakeholders’ Engagement for the 2026 National Data Verification Exercise organised by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

Epe Insights reports that the engagement brought together key stakeholders to discuss accurate data verification, transparency in revenue distribution, and the importance of credible fiscal records across the country.

Speaking at the forum, representatives of Lagos State stressed the need for the state to receive greater consideration in national revenue allocation. The argument was based on Lagos State’s growing population, strategic economic role, and increasing infrastructural demands.

Stakeholders noted that Lagos remains the commercial hub of Nigeria and continues to shoulder enormous responsibilities in transportation, housing, healthcare, education, and security. They explained that these realities justify a more balanced and improved allocation formula.

During the engagement, assurances were given to the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission that all Local Governments in Lagos State would fully cooperate throughout the 2026 National Data Verification Exercise.

Participants further highlighted the importance of collaboration between federal agencies, state governments, and local councils in achieving credible and reliable data outcomes.

Lagos State representatives expressed optimism that the verification exercise would strengthen the case for the state to secure a fairer allocation that reflects its contributions to national growth and development.
