Lagos Ferry Fire: Four Injured as LASWA Launches Investigation

A fire incident involving a Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) vessel, Igbega Eko, occurred early Wednesday morning at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu. The vessel, which was en route to Victoria Island, caught fire around 6:45 AM.

Epe Insights reports that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated, with only four passengers sustaining minor injuries.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) confirmed that the injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention.

LASWA’s emergency response team, in collaboration with LAGFERRY, other boat operators, and first responders, swiftly intervened to contain the situation.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, emphasizing that safety remains a top priority.

“We are conducting a thorough assessment in partnership with relevant stakeholders to understand the circumstances surrounding this incident. Any necessary measures to enhance fire prevention and safety on Lagos waterways will be implemented,” LASWA said in a statement.

Despite the incident, ferry operations across the state remain unaffected. LASWA has assured commuters that all safety protocols are intact and urged passengers to adhere to safety guidelines while using the waterways.
