The Lagos State Government has unveiled the Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan (2024–2044), projecting the fast-growing corridor for major development in industry, tourism, agriculture, and residential infrastructure.

EpeInsights gathered that the plan was presented during a final stakeholders’ meeting held at the Lekki LCDA Secretariat on Friday, with Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, outlining the vision behind the 20-year blueprint.

According to him, the Model City Plan is designed to transform Ibeju-Lekki into a sustainable, adaptable, and globally competitive community, aligning with the state’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.

It focuses on unlocking economic potential across agriculture, tourism, marine activities, and the blue and border economy.

“This marks a significant milestone in the development of Ibeju-Lekki, the emerging growth pole of Lagos State,” Olumide said.

He noted that the Plan will ensure a flexible and inclusive framework for people to live, work, and prosper in a safe, well-planned environment.

The plan complements major projects already shaping the region’s profile, including: Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Plant, Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lekki Deep Seaport, Alaro City, Lekki International Airport, Green Line Rail Project and Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

The Ibeju-Lekki plan also emphasizes critical infrastructure such as mass transit systems, youth empowerment, technology adoption, and community inclusion to support a thriving urban ecosystem.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, Engr. Oluwole Sotire, noted that the plan followed rigorous public consultation and technical development.

These include; a 28-day public inspection held across five strategic locations, contributions from MOA Planners Ltd., the official consultants on the project

Community leaders also voiced support during the meeting.

Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LCDA, Engr. Abdulahi Sesan Oluwa, and Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Hon. Rasak Kasali, both praised the plan’s inclusiveness and requested a grace period to submit joint inputs to further enrich it.

The session was attended by traditional rulers (Obas and Baales), market leaders, former council chairmen, and other stakeholders, who offered valuable insights to ensure the plan reflects local aspirations.
