The Community Development Committee (CDC) of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has held a one-day retreat focused on strengthening grassroots governance and community participation.
Epe Insights reports that the retreat, themed “The Roles of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Today’s Governance,” brought together stakeholders, CDA executives, and community leaders.
The event provided a platform for discussions on improving collaboration between government and grassroots structures. Participants emphasized the importance of active community involvement in development.
The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, was represented at the retreat by the Secretary to the Local Government, Adewale Adebanjo.

In his remarks, Adebanjo reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance. He stressed the importance of CDAs in linking government policies with local communities.
He urged participants to speak with one voice. He also encouraged them to ensure productive deliberations that would yield practical outcomes.
The session was officially declared open by the Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services, Olusola Edalere.
Edalere thanked the organizers and called for full participation. He emphasized the need for attention during all sessions of the retreat.

The retreat featured lectures from resource persons. These included financial analyst Mr. Rotimi Owolawi and Alhaja Muhibah Balogun.
The speakers highlighted key governance issues. Topics included accountability, community mobilization, and conflict resolution.
They also stressed the importance of citizen participation. According to them, active engagement strengthens democratic governance.
Interactive sessions formed part of the programme. Participants discussed ways to improve transparency and collaboration at the community level.
CDA members were encouraged to remain proactive. They were advised to align their activities with government policies.
Unity and effective communication were also emphasized. Stakeholders noted that cooperation is essential for sustainable development.

The Chairman of the CDC, Adeboye Jabita, expressed appreciation to the local government.
He commended the council for its continuous support. He also reaffirmed the CDC’s commitment to capacity-building initiatives.
Jabita said the retreat would strengthen CDA operations. He noted that training is key to improving community leadership.
Participants at the event included CDC executives and supervisors. They engaged actively in discussions throughout the session.
The retreat concluded with renewed commitment from stakeholders. Participants pledged to strengthen their roles in governance.
They also resolved to contribute more effectively to community development. The focus remains on achieving sustainable growth across Ibeju-Lekki.
