The Annual Ramadan Lecture and Iftar organised by the Taibat Garbadeen Foodbank Foundation highlighted the shared spiritual values of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season.
Epe Insights reports that the event, held in Epe, brought together faith leaders, community stakeholders, and residents for reflection, prayer, and unity across religious lines.
Guest Lecturer, Sheikh Daud Al-Aruudy, emphasized that both Ramadan and Lent remind believers of life after death and divine judgment.
He stated that true fasting extends beyond abstaining from food. According to him, the reward after death is determined by one’s deeds on earth.
Referencing the legacy of the foundation’s late matriarch, he noted that her charitable works continue to speak even after her passing.
Speakers described Ramadan and Lent as parallel journeys of spiritual purification. Muslims fast from dawn to sunset seeking closeness to Allah, while Christians observe Lent through prayer, fasting, and reflection ahead of Easter.
Hon. Olabode Garbadeen reflected on his mother’s lifelong sacrifice and quiet generosity. He described her life as a model of compassion and unwavering faith.
He urged adherents of both religions to use this sacred period to retrace their steps and strengthen community bonds.
Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Saliu, also stressed the spiritual harmony between the two seasons.
He noted that such gatherings nourish the soul and help believers walk in a path that pleases God.
Participants described the programme as more than an Iftar. They said it served as a reminder that faith traditions often converge on devotion to God, service to humanity, and accountability.
Prayers were offered for unity, peace, and moral renewal within the community.
The event concluded with the breaking of fast and renewed calls for compassion and righteous living.
