The Federal Medical Centre, Epe, once known as the General Hospital, Epe has officially launched its Blood Donation Week with a resonant theme: “Give Blood, Give Hope: Together We Can Save Lives.”

EpeInsights reports that the campaign serves as both a rallying call and a compassionate reminder of how simple acts can make a life-changing difference.

The event, which runs from Thursday, June 12 to Wednesday, June 18, 2025, is being hosted at the hospital’s Laboratory Department.

Each day, between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, community members are invited to walk in and donate blood in a safe, structured environment.

Though the official launch is marked for June 12, momentum began to build ahead of time. On May 31, members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Epe Branch, rolled up their sleeves to donate and show early support, effectively setting the tone for the week-long campaign.

Mr. Ayanbisi, Head of the Social Welfare Department at FMC Epe, expressed the hospital’s commitment to saving lives and fostering a culture of voluntary donation.

“Every pint of blood donated can mean a second chance at life for someone else. It’s a powerful act of kindness. We want more people to realize that donating blood isn’t difficult, it’s safe, quick, and immensely rewarding,” he said.

For some, like Comrade Ibrahim Adesanya, one of the early donors and a vocal youth health advocate — the experience goes beyond the physical act.

“Every time I donate, I feel connected to something bigger than myself,” Adesanya shared.

“It’s not just blood, it’s hope. Knowing that someone might live because I took out 10 minutes of my time is deeply fulfilling.”

The hospital’s Blood Transfusion Committee is urging schools, religious groups, and local organizations to mobilize their members for the cause.

According to them, everyone has a role to play in creating a healthier, more responsive community and it can start with one person donating blood.

Past donor and community volunteer Mrs. Aminat echoed that sentiment, encouraging others to get involved.

“We all have something to give. You may think it’s a small gesture, but for someone fighting for their life, it’s everything. It could be your friend, your child, your neighbor, we’re all connected in this,” she said.

As the campaign unfolds, FMC Epe assures all participants that safety protocols remain a top priority. Donors are screened and guided by medical professionals, ensuring the process is smooth and secure.

In a time when healthcare systems are stretched, and emergencies are unpredictable, this initiative offers a timely and tangible way for individuals to make a difference, one drop at a time.
