Residents across Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have participated in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, cleaning their homes, compounds, surroundings, markets and drainage channels.
Epe Insights reports that the exercise was coordinated under the leadership of the Executive Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, as part of efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier environment across the council area.
Residents in different communities were encouraged to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their immediate surroundings.
Households cleaned their compounds and adjoining areas, while community members also paid attention to roadsides, drainage channels and other public spaces.
Markets and business areas were equally included in the sanitation activities, with residents and traders participating in efforts to improve environmental conditions.
The exercise provided an opportunity for communities to address accumulated waste and other materials that could obstruct drainage channels.
Residents were reminded that keeping drainage channels clear is essential, particularly during periods of rainfall.
Blocked drainage systems can restrict the free flow of water and contribute to flooding in affected areas.
The council leadership therefore encouraged residents to make environmental cleanliness a continuous responsibility rather than an activity limited to the monthly sanitation exercise.
Proper waste disposal was also emphasised throughout the exercise.
Residents were urged to dispose of household and commercial waste through appropriate channels and avoid practices that could negatively affect the environment.
Indiscriminate dumping of refuse remains prohibited across the council area.
Residents were also reminded that waste burning is strictly prohibited as part of efforts to maintain a cleaner environment and protect public health.
The council called on households, traders and community members to cooperate with environmental authorities and adopt responsible waste management practices.
