In a world where birthdays are often marked by glitz and glamour, Hon. Kenny Kadri-Edu chose a different path, one of compassion, inclusion and community impact.
EpeInsights reports that to mark the 60th birthday of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Hon. Kadri-Edu, through her BOS2023 Project, hosted a heartfelt breakfast for People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) in Epe Local Government.
The serene Epe Hotel and Suites at Shagari Estate provided the perfect backdrop for a gathering that was more than a celebration—it was a powerful statement of empathy and belonging.
PLWDs from across various wards in Epe came together to enjoy a morning filled with uplifting music, inspiring stories, shared laughter and thoughtful gifts, including cash and food items. But what truly stood out was the spirit of unity and the clear message that no one is left behind.
“This wasn’t about throwing a party,” Hon. Kadri-Edu explained. “It was about honoring a governor who believes in inclusive governance. I wanted to mark his milestone in a way that truly reflects his values—by showing our brothers and sisters living with disabilities that they matter.”
She added that the event was a reminder to the PLWD community in Epe that they are seen, heard, and valued. “They are not forgotten. They remain a vital part of our society,” she said.
The event featured powerful contributions from individuals who have lived the reality of disability and emerged stronger.
Dr. Popoola Oluwaseun delivered a keynote that stirred the crowd, urging PLWDs to embrace their potential. “Disability does not mean inability,” he said.
“You have gifts. You have value. Don’t isolate yourself—engage with your world. I am living proof that determination beats limitation.”
Another touching moment came from Dr. Fowowe S.S, who praised the determination of Mr. Segun Williams, President of the PLWDs association.
Williams, he noted, made multiple trips to ensure members could attend the event. “That’s leadership in action,” Dr. Fowowe said.
“He didn’t wait for help—he became the help.”
Mr. Williams himself shared a deeply personal story from his childhood. Despite physical challenges, he recalled how his father encouraged him to join other children in playing football.
“I couldn’t walk well, but I bought the ball so everyone could play. If I hadn’t taken that step, I might not be who I am today.”
His message was clear: PLWDs should not be pitied or sidelined—they are full participants in society with stories, dreams, and potential.
Voices from the PLWDs leadership echoed the importance of continued advocacy. Vice President Mr. Iyanda Azeez and Secretary Mrs. Agbadanla both expressed heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Kadri-Edu and Governor Sanwo-Olu.
“We’re grateful for the attention given to PLWDs in other parts of Lagos,” said Mrs. Agbadanla, “but we hope Epe won’t be left behind. This event gives us hope.”
The breakfast may have lasted just a few hours, but its impact will linger far longer. With each shared story and each grateful smile, the BOS2023 Project reminded everyone that true leadership is measured by how it uplifts the most vulnerable.
In celebrating Governor Sanwo-Olu’s birthday, Hon. Kadri-Edu didn’t just host an event, she lit a beacon of inclusion, community, and hope.
