The Lagos State Government has commissioned a newly constructed block of classrooms at Africa Bethel Primary School, Ota-Ona, in the Ikorodu area of the state, marking another milestone in its effort to boost access to quality basic education.

EpeInsights reports that the project, executed by the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, was handed over to the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) in a ceremony attended by government officials, education stakeholders, and community leaders.

Speaking at the event, LASUBEB Executive Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, praised Hon. Adeshina for his unwavering dedication to the education sector and for responding to the urgent needs of pupils in the area.

“This structure is more than a building—it’s a fulfilled promise that will transform the learning experience of our children in Ikorodu,” Dr. Shittu said. “Your generous support aligns perfectly with our commitment to leaving no child behind, in line with the education pillar of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda.”

He added that such interventions by local government authorities reinforce the broader objective of rehabilitating and expanding education infrastructure across the state. Dr. Shittu also thanked Hon. Adeshina on behalf of the Lagos State Government, education stakeholders, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that his legacy will outlive his tenure.

The LASUBEB Chairman emphasized the need for parents and guardians to be proactive and intentional in raising children who are future-ready, noting that today’s pupils are highly impressionable and require consistent guidance and support.

Dr. Shittu also used the occasion to commend Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership, especially in prioritizing education and technology as key development drivers in Lagos.

He urged teachers and staff of Africa Bethel Primary School to make optimal use of the new facilities and inspire their pupils to strive for excellence.

On his part, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina explained that the four-classroom block was constructed in response to the unsafe and dilapidated state of the former learning environment, which posed a risk to pupils.

“This project was born out of necessity. We could not watch our children continue learning under deplorable conditions. It was important to act and act decisively,” he said.

The new classroom block is expected to ease overcrowding, improve ventilation, and create a more stimulating and conducive learning atmosphere for pupils.

The commissioning drew the presence of government dignitaries, education stakeholders, and members of the community, who lauded the initiative as a demonstration of responsive leadership. +

As the ceremony concluded, Dr. Shittu called for sustained collaboration among local governments, traditional institutions, and community stakeholders to strengthen the foundations of basic education and ensure that similar interventions are replicated across other parts of the state.

“Let this not be an isolated effort,” he said. “Together, we can continue to uplift the standard of basic education and secure the future of the next generation.”LASUBEB Commissions New Classrooms in Ikorodu, Commends LG Chairman’s Commitment to Education LASUBEB Commissions New Classrooms in Ikorodu, Commends LG Chairman’s Commitment to Education
