A tragic incident unfolded early Sunday morning at Mosalasi Roundabout along New Ipaja Road, Lagos, when a speeding black Toyota Tundra veered off the road and fatally struck a female pedestrian.

EpeInsights reports that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the lone crash occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle, with plate number FST 222 HV.

The woman reportedly died on the spot due to the force of the impact.

Following the collision, the truck rammed into a nearby livestock sales outlet on New Ipaja Road, destroying parts of the perimetre fence and damaging an advertising billboard.

Eyewitnesses said the driver attempted to flee the scene but was quickly intercepted by LASTMA officials and handed over to officers from the Gowon Estate Police Division.

The deceased’s body was transferred to the police, who are now handling the case.

LASTMA said the suspect is currently in custody and under interrogation as investigations continue.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his condolences to the victim’s family, describing the crash as a painful reminder of the dangers of reckless driving.

“This heartbreaking incident highlights the devastating consequences of excessive speed. We stand with the family in their time of grief,” he said.

Bakare-Oki also urged motorists to conduct regular vehicle checks, especially on brakes and emphasized strict adherence to traffic laws to prevent avoidable tragedies.
