The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has sounded a strong warning to motorists across the state, urging them to desist from indiscriminate parking practices or face the full weight of the law.
EpeInsights reports that this warning comes after the agency responded to a public complaint about illegally parked vehicles obstructing movement and contributing to traffic congestion along Sapara Williams Street in Ikeja, one of the city’s key business and residential areas.
The General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, during a media briefing said that a total of 30 trucks and 7 private cars were found parked in violation of state parking regulations. In response, the Authority immediately issued a 24-hour removal notice to the vehicle owners.
“We received a report from concerned residents and commuters about the constant obstruction caused by indiscriminately parked vehicles on Sapara Williams Street,” Adelabu said.
“After confirming the situation, our enforcement team swung into action and issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the owners to remove the vehicles or face sanctions.”
She noted that LASPA is intensifying its enforcement efforts to ensure that parking laws are upheld, especially in areas prone to congestion, illegal parking, and environmental degradation.
“This kind of behavior not only disrupts traffic flow but also poses a safety risk to other road users and diminishes the functionality of public infrastructure,” she added.
“We are working to instill a culture of proper parking among Lagosians by reinforcing the importance of using designated parking spaces.”
Adelabu reiterated that the agency’s goal is not punitive, but rather to maintain order, improve traffic efficiency, and ensure the state’s public spaces are properly utilized.
“We will continue to engage the public, enforce compliance, and where necessary, impose penalties including vehicle towing, fines, or prosecution in line with the Lagos State Parking Regulations,” she warned.
LASPA encouraged residents and business owners to partner with the Authority by reporting instances of illegal parking, as community participation is vital to achieving a more organized and livable city.
This latest enforcement action is part of LASPA’s broader strategy to promote responsible parking behavior in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s commitment to improving urban mobility and infrastructure management.
