The Lagos State Government has formally presented the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment to His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu, as the new Onise of Ise Kingdom in Lekki Local Government Area.
Epe Insights reports that the presentation took place on Friday, August 21, 2026, marking the formal commencement of Oba Saliu’s reign as the traditional ruler of Ise Kingdom.
The ceremony was conducted by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa.
The presentation received the approval of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and the Lagos State Executive Council.
Oba Saliu’s appointment followed the passing of the former Onise of Ise Kingdom, the late Oba Ganiu Adebowale Adegbesan.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Agbaje congratulated the new monarch on his ascension to the throne.
He urged Oba Saliu to make peace, unity and inclusive development key priorities throughout his reign.
Agbaje stressed that traditional institutions remain important partners in promoting harmony, stability and development at the grassroots.
He encouraged the new Onise to use his position to foster understanding and cooperation among the people of Ise Kingdom.
The Special Adviser also called on the monarch to extend a spirit of fellowship to members of the various royal families.
He said such an approach would help strengthen reconciliation, cooperation and collective progress within the kingdom.
Agbaje expressed confidence in the ability of Oba Saliu to use his experience and wisdom to advance the interests of the people.
He further expressed optimism that the new reign would contribute to greater peace and prosperity across Ise Kingdom.
The Special Adviser noted that the presentation of the Staff of Office represented more than a ceremonial responsibility.
According to him, it signifies the recognition of the monarch’s authority and his responsibility to serve the people.
Earlier, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa welcomed royal fathers, government officials and other dignitaries who attended the ceremony.
The Permanent Secretary expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for approving the presentation of the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment.
She described the gesture as an indication of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening the traditional institution.
Bolarinwa also linked the administration’s support for traditional institutions to its broader focus on grassroots development.
She said traditional rulers have an important role to play in maintaining peace and supporting development within their communities.
The event brought together members of the traditional institution, government representatives, royal families and other stakeholders.
The presentation formally recognised Oba Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu as the duly installed Onise of Ise Kingdom.
It also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to welcome the new monarch and encourage him as he begins his reign.
