Springfield Private School and Bosede Idehen International Academy have successfully concluded the maiden edition of the Bosede Idehen 5-Aside Football Competition, reaffirming their commitment to promoting grassroots sports development and holistic education among young learners in Lagos State.
Epe Insights reports that the inter-school football competition, held between March 6 and April 17, 2026, attracted six schools from the Alimosho area, creating an avenue for students to showcase their football talents while strengthening friendship, teamwork and healthy competition.

The participating schools included Bosede Idehen International Academy, Parcel Manuel School, Phidel School, God’s Merit School, Silverson School and Sapphire Stones School.
The tournament featured exciting football matches and was designed not only to identify promising young football talents but also to encourage discipline, leadership, resilience and collaboration among students.
To further encourage excellence, the organisers announced cash prizes for the teams that finished in first, second and third positions at the end of the competition.
Addressing participants and guests at the closing ceremony, the Director of Bosede Idehen International Academy, Mrs. Idehen Ovabor, said the competition reflects the school’s philosophy of developing learners academically, physically and morally.
She explained that the institution’s blended Nigerian and American curriculum places equal emphasis on academic excellence and extracurricular activities, ensuring students enjoy a balanced educational experience.
According to Mrs. Ovabor, allowing learners to participate in sports helps them discover their unique abilities while preparing them for future opportunities.
“At Bosede Idehen International Academy, we believe that our learners should not only study hard but also have opportunities to play and develop their talents. Education is about nurturing the total child, and sports remain an important part of that journey,” she said.
She observed that although many students aspire to become doctors, lawyers and other professionals, others may excel in sports or different career paths.
Mrs. Ovabor, however, stressed that education remains essential regardless of one’s chosen profession.
“Not every child will become a doctor or lawyer, but every child deserves quality education. As they pursue their talents, they must continue learning and attain the necessary educational qualifications because talent alone is not enough. Education provides the knowledge, discipline and character needed to succeed in life.”
The educationist also praised members of staff whose dedication and commitment ensured the successful organisation of the competition.

She described their efforts as commendable and expressed optimism that subsequent editions of the tournament would attract more schools and become one of the leading grassroots sporting events in Lagos State.
Parents, teachers and supporters who attended the tournament applauded the organisers for creating an avenue that enables students to develop their sporting abilities while building confidence, discipline and teamwork.
The successful hosting of the Bosede Idehen 5-Aside Football Competition highlights Springfield Private School and Bosede Idehen International Academy’s continued investment in youth development through education and sports. Organisers expressed confidence that the tournament would become an annual event, providing more opportunities for young footballers to showcase their talents and pursue their dreams while remaining committed to academic excellence.
