Health District III Urges Stronger Immunisation Drive in Ikosi-Ejirin

Immunisation Immunisation

Lagos State Government, through Health District III, has called on stakeholders in Ikosi-Ejirin LCDA to intensify efforts in promoting immunisation and ensuring full vaccination coverage for eligible children.

Epe Insights reports that the call was made during a stakeholders’ engagement on immunisation indices held at the Ikosi-Ejirin LCDA Secretariat Hall in Agbowa, Epe.

The Permanent Secretary of Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, led discussions at the forum, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases.

She noted that immunisation remains one of the most effective public health interventions for preventing illnesses such as tuberculosis, measles, and other conditions that can lead to long-term complications.

Dr. Adeleke expressed concern over gaps identified in the first quarter of 2026 immunisation data, stating that some children in the Ikosi-Ejirin axis may have missed scheduled vaccinations.

She explained that the gaps were linked to low utilisation of available primary healthcare facilities despite government investment in upgraded health infrastructure.

According to her, the state government has continued to provide and improve healthcare facilities, but community participation remains essential to achieve full immunisation coverage.

She described the situation as a public health concern, noting that the figures represent real children who remain vulnerable to preventable diseases.

Dr. Adeleke urged community leaders, health workers, and residents to identify children who have missed vaccinations and ensure they are brought back into the immunisation schedule.

She emphasized that improved awareness and active community involvement are critical to closing existing immunisation gaps across the district.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Ikosi-Ejirin LCDA, Hon. Wale Raji Anomo, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for its continuous support in strengthening healthcare delivery.

He encouraged residents to prioritise immunisation, noting that healthy children form the foundation of a stronger and more prosperous society.

The Chairman reaffirmed the commitment of the local government to supporting health programmes that promote child welfare and community well-being.

Health officials at the meeting reiterated the need for sustained sensitisation campaigns to improve vaccine uptake and strengthen trust in public health services.

The engagement ended with a renewed commitment from stakeholders to work together in improving immunisation coverage and safeguarding the health of children across Ikosi-Ejirin LCDA.
