The Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, has praised the institution’s growing academic reputation and reaffirmed his support for its continued development and global competitiveness.
Epe Insights reports that the monarch made the remarks during his maiden familiarisation visit to the university’s Main Campus in Ojo, Lagos, where he engaged with management and toured key facilities.
The visit was held at the Governing Council Chamber of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building on Monday, 8th June 2026, and brought together top university officials and stakeholders.
Oba Ogunsanwo described the visit as an opportunity to gain deeper insight into LASU’s governance structure, academic direction, and institutional priorities.
He commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, and her management team for what he called a clear roadmap focused on academic excellence and innovation.
The Chancellor highlighted LASU’s emergence as the sole beneficiary of the TETFund Centre of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Sciences (ARCS), describing it as a landmark achievement.
The ₦3 billion intervention, he noted, positions the university as a major hub for research, innovation, and technological advancement in Nigeria and the wider region.

He also commended the institution’s growing focus on digital transformation, research development, and expanded academic programmes aligned with global standards.
Oba Ogunsanwo reaffirmed his commitment to supporting LASU through his royal office, professional experience, and networks to further enhance its global visibility.
He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among government institutions, alumni, private sector partners, and philanthropists to sustain the university’s growth trajectory.
According to him, such partnerships are essential to unlocking new opportunities for institutional development and academic excellence.
The Chancellor expressed optimism that LASU would continue to evolve into a global centre for entrepreneurship, technology, and good governance.
In her welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Olatunji-Bello described the visit as historic and symbolic of strengthened ties between the university leadership and its Chancellor.

She also congratulated Oba Ogunsanwo on the completion of his doctoral degree at LASU, noting his dual role as both Chancellor and alumnus of the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted key achievements under her administration, including LASU’s position as the most sought-after university in Nigeria during the 2025 and 2026 JAMB admission cycles.
She further noted improvements in infrastructure, full academic accreditation, digitalisation of systems, and increased recognition at national and international levels.
Presentations were delivered on the university’s governance structure, development priorities, and strategic initiatives by senior academic and administrative leaders.
The Chancellor later embarked on a facility tour, inspecting the Innovation Hub, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Library Complex, lecture theatres, student hostels, and the Academic Resource Centre.

Oba Ogunsanwo, who is the first traditional ruler to serve as LASU Chancellor, was accompanied by his wife, Olori Bolanle Ogunsanwo, and a delegation of royal fathers.
The visit concluded with renewed commitments to strengthen collaboration and support LASU’s vision of becoming a globally competitive institution.
