The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has successfully restored power supply to Okegun-Odofin, Okegun-Eleku, Okegun-Baale, Okegun-School, and Madagbayun communities.

Epe Insights reports that the restoration followed the rehabilitation and commissioning of a vandalised 33 kV overhead power line that had left the affected communities without stable electricity for an extended period.

Local authorities explained that the project forms part of the council’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and strengthen grassroots development across communities within the local government area.

Residents had endured months of unreliable electricity after the critical power infrastructure was damaged by vandals, affecting daily living, small businesses, and essential services.

The intervention by the local government has now restored regular electricity supply, bringing relief to households and business owners who depend on stable power for their livelihoods.

Community members say the return of electricity is already boosting economic activities, particularly for traders, artisans, and small-scale entrepreneurs operating in the Okegun axis.

The restored power supply is also expected to improve security across the communities, as street lighting can now function more effectively in residential and commercial areas.

Public institutions including schools and health centres are also expected to benefit from the improved electricity supply, enabling them to provide better services to residents.

The project fulfills a promise earlier made by the council chairman during an inspection and community engagement visit on December 30, 2025.

During that visit, Olowa assured residents that the damaged 33KV overhead power line would be urgently repaired and electricity restored to the affected communities.

Officials noted that contractor mobilization and coordinated collaboration with technical partners helped ensure the successful completion of the rehabilitation project.

Residents have since expressed appreciation to the council administration, describing the development as a major improvement in living conditions for people in the Okegun communities.

The council also acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government and other stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the project.

Community leaders and residents were also commended for their patience and cooperation throughout the rehabilitation process.

Representatives of the chairman attended the event marking the restoration of electricity to the communities.

Among those present were the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Adewale Adebanjo, and the Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Abisola Raola Azeez.

Also present was the Supervisor for Education, Sodiq Agbaje, who joined other officials to witness the restoration of power in the communities.

The renewed electricity supply is expected to support economic growth and improve the overall standard of living for residents across the affected areas.

For many residents, the restoration marks the end of a long period of darkness and the beginning of improved access to reliable electricity in the Okegun communities.
