Residents of several Okegun communities in Ibeju-Lekki have begun enjoying stable electricity following the restoration of a long-vandalized power line by the local government administration.

Epe Insights reports that the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has successfully restored power supply to Okegun-Odofin, Okegun-Eleku, Okegun-Baale, Okegun-School, and Madagbayun communities.

The restoration followed the rehabilitation and commissioning of a vandalized 33KV overhead power line that had left the affected communities in prolonged darkness for years.

Local authorities said the infrastructure project was part of ongoing efforts by the council to strengthen grassroots development and improve essential services across communities within the council area.

Residents had previously endured months of unstable electricity supply after the critical power line was damaged by vandals, disrupting daily activities, businesses, and public services.

The intervention by the local government has now restored regular electricity supply, bringing relief to households and small business owners who rely heavily on power for their livelihoods.

Community members say the return of electricity is already improving economic activities, especially for traders, artisans, and small-scale entrepreneurs operating within the affected areas.

The development is also expected to improve security in the communities as functioning streetlights will help reduce darkness on major roads and residential streets.

Reliable electricity will also benefit public institutions such as health centres and schools, enabling them to function more effectively and deliver better services to residents.

The project fulfilled a promise earlier made by the council chairman during a community engagement and inspection visit on December 30, 2025.

During the visit, Olowa assured residents that the damaged 33KV overhead power line would be urgently repaired and power restored to the communities without unnecessary delay.

Officials say contractor mobilization and coordinated collaboration between the council and technical partners ensured that the rehabilitation work was completed successfully.

Residents have expressed appreciation to the council administration, describing the project as a major step toward improving living conditions in the Okegun axis.

The council also acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government and other stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the project.

Community leaders, residents, and technical partners were commended for their patience and cooperation throughout the rehabilitation process.

Representatives of the chairman attended the commissioning of the restored electricity supply in the communities.

Those present included the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Adewale Adebanjo, alongside the Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Abisola Raola Azeez.

Also present at the event was the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Sodiq Agbaje, who joined other officials to witness the official restoration of electricity in the area.

The renewed power supply is expected to support economic growth and improve the standard of living for residents across the affected communities.

For many residents, the restoration marks the end of a long wait and the beginning of improved access to reliable electricity in the Okegun communities.
