Lekki LCDA has intensified its advocacy against violence targeting women and young girls with a public sensitisation programme held at the Council Hall on February 23, 2026.
Epe Insights reports that the awareness campaign was organised by the Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Department (WAPA) under the directive of the Executive Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE).
The programme was themed “Speak Up. Stand Up. End Violence. Protecting Women and Girls is Everyone’s Responsibility.”
Council officials described the event as a call to action against all forms of abuse affecting women and girls within the community.
Participants gathered to discuss domestic violence, emotional abuse, and other harmful practices that continue to threaten the safety and dignity of women.
The session was led by Dr. Bukola Lawal, a counselling psychologist who provided expert insights into recognising warning signs of abuse.
She engaged attendees in practical discussions on the emotional and psychological impact of violence.
Dr. Lawal encouraged victims and witnesses to speak out and seek help through appropriate support channels.
According to organisers, the sensitisation programme aimed to break the culture of silence surrounding abuse cases.
The initiative also emphasised community responsibility in protecting vulnerable individuals.
Engr. Kasali reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of residents, especially women and young girls.
He stressed that preventing violence requires collective effort from families, community leaders, and institutions.
Stakeholders at the event agreed that sustained advocacy and consistent action are key to addressing gender-based violence.
Participants were urged to promote awareness within their neighbourhoods and report suspected cases promptly.
The council reiterated that protecting women and girls remains a shared duty that demands vigilance and compassion.
