The Paramount Ruler of Iwerekun Kingdom, HRM Oba Muftau Adewunmi Olarenwaju, the Oniwerekun of Iwerekun in Ibeju-Lekki, has formally endorsed the proposed immortalisation of Alhaji Akanni Seriki Bamu, the Apase of Epe Land. The endorsement marks a significant milestone for the historic initiative.
Epe Insights reports that the royal approval was given during a courtesy visit by the Epe Club, the foremost socio-cultural organisation in Epe Division. The visit formed part of the club’s consultation and stakeholder engagement ahead of the planned immortalisation programme.

Leading the delegation, the President of the Epe Club explained the vision behind the initiative to the monarch. He stated that the programme was designed to celebrate outstanding individuals while they are still alive, rather than waiting for posthumous recognition.
According to the club, the initiative seeks to honour icons whose lives of service, leadership, and sacrifice have contributed significantly to the growth and development of Epe Division and its surrounding communities.
In his response, Oba Muftau Adewunmi Olarenwaju expressed appreciation for the visit and praised the Epe Club for initiating what he described as a thoughtful and progressive project. He described the plan as timely and worthy of broad support.
The monarch affirmed that Alhaji Akanni Seriki Bamu remains a father figure to many across Epe Land. He noted that Baba Bamu’s guidance, mentorship, and influence have also shaped his own journey as a traditional ruler.

Oba Olarenwaju further disclosed that he was a committed member of the Epe Club before ascending the throne. He added that he still regards himself as a loyal and active member of the club despite his royal responsibilities.
The royal father thereafter gave his full endorsement and blessings for the successful execution of the immortalisation programme. He pledged his support and encouraged continued unity among stakeholders.
The visit highlighted the growing consensus and widespread acceptance of the proposed project. Observers say the endorsement strengthens the credibility and cultural significance of the initiative.
Community leaders have described the move to immortalise Baba Bamu as historic and well-deserved. Many believe it reflects a renewed commitment to celebrating exemplary leadership and legacy within Epe Land.
The Epe Club reaffirmed its commitment to transparent consultation and inclusive participation as preparations for the programme continue.
