Hon. Olowa Celebrates Lagos Cultural Heritage at Historic Eyo Festival

Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, has expressed deep excitement over his participation in the historic Eyo Festival in Lagos.

Epe Insights reports that Hon. Olowa, who attended the festival in his capacity as an Adamu Orisa, said he felt privileged to be part of a celebration that vividly reflects the rich cultural heritage of Lagos State and the wider Yoruba tradition.

The festival, held on Lagos Island, featured colourful processions, captivating traditional performances, and an atmosphere of joy that attracted thousands of spectators.

Participants were adorned in white flowing robes, while iconic Eyo masquerades paraded the ancient streets, creating a striking cultural spectacle.

This year’s edition was uniquely significant as it marked the first Eyo Festival Lagos in eight years and was held during the festive December season.

The celebration also honoured prominent Lagosians who made lasting contributions to the state, including Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, General Mobolaji Johnson, and Sir Michael Otedola.

Hon. Olowa expressed pride in leading an administration that places strong value on the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.

He described the festival as a symbol of resilience, creativity, and communal unity that reconnects Lagosians with their historical roots.

He commended the organisers and participants for sustaining the age-long tradition. He praised His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, for his commitment to preserving the cultural identity of Lagos.

Hon. Olowa reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to building a society that honours its past while embracing innovation and growth for the benefit of residents of Ibeju-Lekki and Lagos State at large.
