The Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area has stepped up efforts to restore electricity to communities affected by the vandalization of a major 33kV power line serving parts of the council area.
Epe Insights reports that rehabilitation work on the vandalized 33kV transmission line linking Ibeju to Okegun Madagbayun is progressing steadily, following the intervention of the Ibeju-Lekki LCDA administration.
The project is aimed at restoring stable electricity supply to the Okegun axis and surrounding communities that have experienced prolonged power outages.
Speaking on the development, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LCDA, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, explained that the scope of work goes beyond temporary fixes. According to him, the damaged section of the power line is being completely rebuilt to ensure long-term reliability and safety.
This includes the installation of new electricity poles, replacement of damaged conductors, and the upgrading of other essential components required for effective power transmission.
Hon. Olowa noted that the decision to fully rehabilitate the line was informed by the need to provide a sustainable solution rather than repeated repairs.
He stated that the council is committed to restoring electricity in a manner that will serve residents for years without frequent disruptions.
The Chairman described electricity as a critical service that supports daily life, economic activity, and social development.

He stressed that reliable power supply is essential for households, small businesses, artisans, students, and healthcare facilities within the affected areas. According to him, restoring electricity will help revive local economic activities that have been disrupted by the outage.
He further explained that the intervention forms part of the council’s broader agenda to improve infrastructure and ensure that essential public services are accessible to all residents.
He added that his administration remains focused on addressing issues that directly impact the welfare and productivity of the people.
Residents of the Okegun axis and nearby communities have expressed appreciation for the ongoing rehabilitation work. Many described the prolonged power outage as challenging, noting its effect on businesses, home activities, and general comfort.
A resident said the visible progress on the power line has renewed hope that normal life will soon return.
According to community members, the lack of electricity had forced some small business owners to shut down operations or rely on expensive alternative power sources.
They expressed optimism that the completion of the rehabilitation will bring relief and reduce the financial burden on households and entrepreneurs.
The Ibeju-Lekki LCDA has assured residents that the project is being closely monitored to ensure quality and timely completion. The council also reaffirmed its commitment to providing regular updates on the progress of the work and the expected timeline for power restoration.
As the rehabilitation continues, residents have been urged to cooperate with workers on site and avoid any actions that could disrupt the process.
The council has also called on the public to protect public infrastructure and report any suspicious activities that could lead to vandalism.
With the steady progress recorded so far, stakeholders remain hopeful that electricity will soon be restored to the affected communities, marking another step in the council’s effort to improve living conditions and promote sustainable development within Ibeju-Lekki.
