The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has hosted youth leaders and security stakeholders across Lagos State, particularly from the Epe Division, at the Police–Youth Dialogue, a platform aimed at strengthening trust, collaboration and mutual understanding between young people and law enforcement agencies.

EpeInsights reports that the event, themed “The Power of Partnership: Cultivating Trust and Understanding Between Youth and Law Enforcement Agencies,” was held at the Council Secretariat Multipurpose Hall in Igando-Oloja.

The dialogue sought to deepen communication, rebuild public confidence in the police and promote peaceful coexistence through constructive engagement, a continuation of the reform efforts inspired by the post-EndSARS movement and supported by the Lagos State Government.

In his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Chairman, Conference 57 of Lagos State LG Chairmen, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, expressed delight in hosting the initiative, describing it as vital to fostering peace and civic harmony.

“As a youth-friendly administration, we believe that when young people and security operatives work together, our society becomes safer and stronger,” Olowa stated.

“I encourage our youths to remain law-abiding, peaceful, and serve as worthy ambassadors of Ibeju-Lekki and Nigeria.”

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Abubakre Mobolaji Ogunlende, lauded the energy and resilience of Lagos youths, emphasizing that their creativity and leadership align with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda for a greater Lagos.

“Our youths are the backbone of this state’s future. Their passion and discipline are essential in shaping a more secure and progressive society,” he said.

The dialogue featured interactive panel sessions and open-floor engagements between young participants and law enforcement representatives, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies. Discussions covered topics such as community policing, civic responsibility, conflict resolution, and youth empowerment.

The forum was well attended by youth organizations, community leaders, traditional rulers, and representatives of security formations, all pledging continued partnership in advancing peace and security within Lagos communities.

Special recognition was given to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s consistent support of youth-focused initiatives.

The Police–Youth Dialogue was first conceptualized by Ambassador Olalekan Biliaminu Oba in the aftermath of the 2020 EndSARS protests, and has since evolved into a vital platform for rebuilding trust between the youth and law enforcement agencies in Lagos State.
