The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has confirmed that all nine individuals injured in the ferry fire incident at Ipakodo Ferry Terminal on April 3 are receiving medical treatment and showing signs of recovery.
Epe Insights had earlier reported a fire incident involving a Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) vessel, Igbega Eko, on Wednesday morning at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu.
The vessel, which was en route to Victoria Island, caught fire around 6:45 AM.
In a statement released on Thursday, LASWA reported that six of the injured—comprising passengers, LASWA personnel, and LAGFERRY staff—are being treated at General Hospital, Ikorodu. “Medical personnel are closely monitoring their condition to ensure full recovery. Three others are receiving treatment at a private hospital, with no life-threatening injuries reported.”
LASWA reassured the public that it remains committed to supporting the victims and their families while working closely with medical teams to facilitate their recovery.

Meanwhile, investigations into the cause of the fire on the Igbega Eko vessel are ongoing. The agency said comprehensive safety reviews are being conducted to prevent future incidents.
“We commend the swift response of emergency services and appreciate the public’s cooperation during this incident,” LASWA stated.
It said further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
