Sanwo-Olu Government has clarified the legality of speed limits on Lagos roads.

Epe Insights reports that the Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has warned residents of the state against the fabrication of false information on the speed limit operation.

In a statement posted by the ministry on X formerly known as Twitter, Osiyemi said the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation determines the size, colour, and type of traffic signs to ensure standardisation and adherence to global best practices.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation referenced Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018) as the legal framework for traffic signs and stipulates penalties on motorists who exceed prescribed speed limits.

Osiyemi also informed Lagos residents about the newly installed speed limit cameras on Alapere Road and Mobolaji Bank Anthony axes of the state.

The commissioner noted that studies have revealed the need for installing speed limit cameras in other areas of the state, adding that it will be done after further reviews.

While speaking on the relevance of the speed limit cameras, the Lagos commissioner added that the purpose of the cameras is to ensure the safety of commuters and residents on Lagos roads.
