Residents of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) staged a protest at the Lagos State APC secretariat in Ikeja, opposing the renomination of Lasisi Akinsanya for another term as chairman.

EpeInsights reports that the protesters armed with placards and banners, expressed dissatisfaction with Akinsanya’s leadership, criticizing the lack of progress in the LCDA under his administration.

Their grievances extended beyond Akinsanya to include former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola and APC chieftain Enilolobo, whom they accused of backing his candidacy.

Comrade Olokodana Bukhari, speaking on behalf of the protesters, warned the APC leadership of potential political fallout if Akinsanya’s renomination proceeded.

“Hon. Lasisi Akinsanya has been imposed as the party’s candidate for the upcoming polls. We are here to alert the party hierarchy that he is not fit to represent our LCDA. Endorsing his candidacy is a recipe for disaster in 2025 and could negatively impact APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections,” Bukhari said.

He also accused Akinsanya of political alignment with individuals allegedly indifferent to the party’s welfare and questioned his commitment to APC’s goals.

Bukhari noted that the council frequently ranks at the bottom of Lagos State’s monthly development reports, attributing this to Akinsanya’s stagnating leadership.

“All of us here are residents without political affiliations, united only by our desire for a better LCDA. We call on the party hierarchy to reconsider Akinsanya’s candidature,” he added.

Mrs. Dayo Aderinmola, a local women leader, urged the APC to thoroughly investigate the formal petition, emphasizing that the community has witnessed minimal development during Akinsanya’s tenure.Residents Protest APC’s Renomination of Lasisi Akinsanya as Igando-Ikotun LCDA Chairman

Responding to the protest outside the secretariat, APC State Secretary Dr. Adeola Jokomba assured the group that their concerns would be reviewed. He cautioned against attempts by external parties to hijack the demonstration.

Jokomba acknowledged receipt of the formal complaint by signing the letter presented and promised that party officials would reach out to the protest leader, Comrade Adebayo Ifedayo, before the week’s end.
