More than 500 residents of Igbogun and neighbouring communities in Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have benefited from a free medical outreach organised at the Igbogun Primary Health Centre (PHC).
Epe Insights reports that the outreach provided residents with access to essential healthcare services without consultation fees, payment for medical tests, or charges for prescribed medications.
The programme was designed to bring basic and preventive healthcare closer to residents while helping members of the community access services that may otherwise come with financial challenges.
Among the services provided were blood pressure and blood sugar checks, eye examinations, glaucoma screening, laboratory tests and dental care.
Residents also benefited from tuberculosis screening, medical consultations, family planning services, health education and free medications.
The integrated nature of the outreach allowed beneficiaries to access several health services at one location, reducing the need to travel to different facilities for basic medical attention.
The exercise was coordinated by the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Mbalaso Chidinma, with members of the Management and Executive staff of Lekki LCDA in attendance.
The Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, MNSE, MNATE, was represented at the programme by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Oluremi Alogba.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman, Alogba encouraged residents to take advantage of the healthcare services available at the Igbogun PHC.
She also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare services across Lekki LCDA.
According to the council, strengthening primary healthcare remains important to improving the wellbeing of residents, particularly people who may face difficulties accessing medical services because of cost or distance.
The outreach also provided an opportunity for residents to receive health information and basic screenings that can support early detection of certain health conditions.
The initiative comes against the backdrop of the Federal Government’s reforms following the removal of fuel subsidy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The council noted that additional resources available to governments through the reforms should translate into practical benefits for ordinary Nigerians.
Healthcare and the strengthening of primary healthcare centres have been identified among the areas receiving increased attention under the ongoing reforms.
For the Lekki LCDA administration, the free medical outreach represents part of efforts to ensure that available public resources support services that directly affect residents.
The programme also attracted commendation from the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke.
The Permanent Secretary, alongside the Director of Medical Services and other Health District III officials, praised the Lekki LCDA Chairman for his contributions to healthcare development within the council area.
Adeleke also acknowledged the importance of supporting primary healthcare facilities that serve communities at the grassroots.
She further pledged to support the Igbogun PHC, within her capacity, with additional personnel to strengthen its ability to provide healthcare services to residents.
The proposed personnel support is expected to complement the efforts of existing health workers at the facility and improve its capacity to respond to the healthcare needs of the community.
Residents who participated in the outreach were able to access several services without direct financial costs, making the programme an important intervention for households seeking basic medical care.
Beyond the immediate medical services, the initiative also highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare, routine screening and health education at the community level.
The Lekki LCDA administration reiterated its commitment to supporting healthcare delivery and bringing essential services closer to residents across the council area.
The Igbogun outreach therefore adds to ongoing efforts to strengthen access to primary healthcare while ensuring that residents benefit directly from public health interventions.
With more than 500 residents reached during the exercise, the programme provided a platform for medical professionals to screen, educate and attend to beneficiaries within their community.
