One of the five victims injured in Friday’s explosion at a CCTV dealer’s shop on Kodesho Street, near Computer Village in the Ikeja area of Lagos, has died.
EpeInsights learnt that the victim succumbed to his injuries on Saturday despite efforts by medical personnel to save him.
The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed that five people were injured in the blast, which occurred around 6:35 p.m. on Friday.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the scene was quickly secured by operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and other units to ensure public safety.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Owohunwa, also visited the site shortly after the explosion for an on-the-spot assessment.
Hundeyin said all five victims were rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Police PRO confirmed the death, saying, “Yes, we have been informed that one of them died on Saturday.”
He also noted that investigations into the cause of the explosion are still ongoing. “The investigation is still on. We will make it public as soon as it is concluded,” he said.
Computer Village, located in the Ikeja axis of Lagos, is Nigeria’s largest tech market and one of the busiest commercial zones in the state. It draws thousands of visitors daily, including buyers, traders, and technicians dealing in phones, gadgets, and security systems.
