OKL Campaign Defends APC Primary Process, Calls for Accurate Reporting
Epe Insights reports that the campaign committee of Hon. (Engr.) Abiola Okanlawon Olowu (OKL), the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I, has called for responsible and fact-based reporting following a recent interview published by Epe News featuring Mr. Eturugo Oladapo.
The committee expressed concern over claims made during the interview, describing several assertions as lacking verifiable facts and inconsistent with the documented outcome of the APC primary election process.
According to the statement, Mr. Oladapo has no documented political affiliation or established ties to Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I, raising questions about the basis of some of the claims presented in the interview.
The campaign maintained that while freedom of expression remains an important democratic principle, public commentary should be guided by facts and accurate information.
The committee clarified that Hon. Olowu participated fully in the APC screening and primary process alongside other aspirants and emerged victorious through what it described as a transparent and credible exercise.

It noted that the outcome reflected the confidence reposed in him by party members and stakeholders across the constituency.
According to the statement, Hon. Olowu’s record of service and community engagement has continued to earn him support among residents of Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I.
The committee described his emergence as the APC candidate as a reflection of the aspirations of party members and constituents seeking continuity, development, and effective representation.
The statement also addressed comments relating to the participation of political appointees in party primaries and the issue of resignation timelines.
Citing Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, the committee stated that political appointees are prohibited from serving as voting delegates or being voted for in party primaries while still occupying appointive positions.
However, it argued that the law does not prescribe a specific resignation deadline such as March 31, 2026, as referenced in some public discussions.
The campaign urged commentators, political actors, and media organisations to seek proper legal interpretation before making claims that may misinform members of the public.

It further stressed the importance of accuracy and professionalism in political reporting, especially during electoral periods.
The committee reiterated that Hon. Olowu’s candidacy enjoys the support of party leadership and reflects the decision reached through the APC’s established internal processes.
It added that both party members and residents have expressed confidence in his capacity to represent the constituency effectively.
The campaign also called on stakeholders to prioritise discussions centered on development, governance, and the future of Ibeju-Lekki rather than unverified political narratives.
According to the statement, constructive engagement and issue-based campaigns remain essential to strengthening democratic participation and promoting unity within the constituency.
Epe Insights notes that the committee reaffirmed its commitment to a campaign focused on service, representation, and sustainable development.
The statement concluded by urging all political stakeholders to work towards peaceful engagement and collective progress for the benefit of the people of Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I.
